September 23, 2025 — A woman who was burned by a Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker has reached a quick settlement with the manufacturers.
The lawsuit was filed by Fallon S. K., a woman from Michigan who accused Sunbeam Products and its parent company Newell Brands of selling a pressure cooker with defective “safety features.”
According to her lawsuit, she was scalded in September 2023 when she was able to open the lid on her Crock-Pot Oval Multi-Function Pressure Cooker (Model Number CPPCV60-SS).
The pressure cooker was supposed to have safety features designed to lock the lid and prevent it from opening while it was pressurized.
Instead, she claims that she was able to easily open the lid before all of the pressure had been completely released, which resulted in the scalding-hot contents being ejected out of the pot and onto her body.
Her lawsuit quotes statements in the Owner’s Manual, like: “Pressure will not build if the Lid is not shut correctly and has not sealed.”
The manual also claims that the Crock-Pot has “a safety feature to keep the Lid from being removed while the Cooker is under pressure.”
The settlement notice does not include details about the agreement.
Sunbeam and Newell could be motivated to settle lawsuits and avoid big jury awards. Earlier this year, a judge refused to overturn a $9 million payout to a woman who was burned by a Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker.
Her Crock Pot Lawsuit was filed against Sunbeam Products Inc. and Newell Brands Inc. on September 16, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (Atlanta Division) — Case 1:25-cv-05281-MHC.
