What Happened With This Recall?
In August 2026, Conair expanded a recall for millions of Cuisinart grill brushes with metal wire-bristles that can detach and become embedded in food, which poses a risk of internal injuries for anyone who eats the food and accidentally swallows a sharp metal wire.
The expanded recall adds roughly 1.9 million brushes to a recall that was first announced in July 2026 for about 1.72 million brushes. The combined total is now 3.6 million recalled brushes.
Why Does Bristle Ingestion Cause Internal Injuries?
A wire bristle that falls off a grill brush is tiny, blends in to the grill grates, and is easy to miss during cooking. It is thin enough to become embedded in a burger or other food. Once swallowed, the wire can puncture the throat or digestive system. It can also get stuck or lodged in soft tissues, such as the intestines. There is a potential risk of internal injuries that require emergency surgery to repair the damage or remove the bristle.
How Many People Were Injured?
Conair is aware of at least 54 reports and reviews describing bristles that detached from the brushes. Of those, 3 consumers actually swallowed the metal wire bristles and needed medical treatment to remove the bristle from their digestive tract or throat.
Which Cuisinart Grill Brushes Are Included?
In addition to the specific model numbers listed below, Conair says all Cuisinart wire bristle grill brushes sold before 2020 are included in the recall, even if the model number is not on this list.
The expanded recall also includes brushes with the following model-numbers:
- Previously recalled models: CCB-100, CCB-4125, CCB-5014, CCB-6450, CCB-8012, CCB-4114, CCB-W2, CSBS-777
- Newly added models: CGWM-024, CGWM-059, FCB-501, CGS-W18, CCB-134, CGWM-061, CB-395, CCB-3001, CGWM-077, CGWM-058, CCB-012/021, CGWM-060, FBH-51
- Also included: brushes bundled in the Premium Grill 10 Piece Set (CGS-2010), 13 Piece Wooden Handle Grill Tool Set (CGS-W13), 14 Piece Deluxe Stainless Steel Grill Set (CGS-5014), and 20 Piece Deluxe Grill Set (CGS-5020)
Most of the brushes have the name “Cuisinart” on the handle, except FCB-501 and CCB-395 models, which are unmarked. They were sold for about 17 years, from June 2009 through March 2026, at retailers like Walmart, Burlington, TJ Maxx, Ross, Amazon, Cuisinart.com and others.
What Should I Do If I Have a Recalled Brush?
Consumers should stop using the recalled grill brushes. You can get a full refund or a Cuisinart.com store credit worth the refund amount plus an extra 20%.
