Cuisinart Grill Brushes Recalled After 3 Ingestion Injuries Reported
In July 2026, Conair LLC recalled about 1.7 million Cuisinart grill brushes because the small metal wire bristles can detach from the brush and get stuck on the grill, or embedded into food.
These bristles may be nearly invivsible on the grill or if they get into the food, which poses a serious safety hazard if people accidentally swallow the bristles. The ingestion hazard poses a risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.
The Cuisinart recall is the latest in a string of wire grill brush recalls. It follows the Weber grill brush recall of 3.2 million units in February 2026 and the Nexgrill grill brush recall of more than 10.2 million units in March 2026, both issued for the same ingestion hazard.
What Is the Problem?
Cuisinart wire grill brushes are designed with rows of thin metal bristles. The brushes are used to scrub baked-on food residue from hot grill grates. With repeated use, those bristles can loosen and break away from the brush head.
The CPSC describes the hazard as follows:
“Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.”
A single detached bristle is small and easily disappears against a dark, greasy grill grate. The person grilling may not be able to spot it. If a wire on the grill transfers to meat or vegetables and is eaten, it can become embedded in the victim’s mouth, throat, or esophagus.
There is also a risk that the bristle could pass deeper into the victim’s stomach and intestines. In some of incidents, medical treatment was necessary to removed swallowed bristles from consumers, and a wire that punctures the digestive tract can require surgery to repair.
How Many People Were Injured?
Conair said it received 54 reports and reviews describing metal bristles that detached from the recalled grill brushes. Of those, 3 people reported swallowing a bristle and seeking medical treatment to have it removed from the digestive tract or throat.
This may understate the true number of injuries. Someone who feels a sharp pain in their throat or stomach days after a cookout may never link it to a grill brush, so many bristle-ingestion injuries are likely never reported.
Swallowing a grill brush bristle has been linked to injuries such as:
- Cuts and puncture wounds inside the mouth and throat
- A bristle lodged in the throat or esophagus
- A bristle that travels into the stomach or intestines
- Internal injury or perforation that may require surgery to repair
