February 18, 2025 —Turkana Food Inc., a company based in New Jersey, has recalled Aleppo Tahini Sesame Paste due to a risk of food poisoning with Salmonella.
The recall involves 858 cases of Aleppo Tahini Sesame Paste that may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning.
The recalled product was distributed in the states of FL, KY, VA, NY, NJ, TN, MA, TX, Il, IN, MI, RI, PA, NC, MD, VA, OH, AL, MO, CA.
It was sold in a 1-pound (16-ounce) plastic jar with a gold lid. There is a gold label marked with “Aleppo Sesame Paste Tahini.”
Consumers can identify the product with LOT# 120824-01 (on the top of the jar), UPC Label 854643003054 (sticker on the side of jar), Expiration Date August 2026 (printed on the top portion of the jar).
No illnesses were reported, but the potential for Salmonella contamination was discovered during routine tests by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, which “revealed that the finished products contained Salmonella,” according to the recall.
Consumers who bought this product are being urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
