Art of Green Detergent Recall
In December 2022, a Texas-based company recalled certain Art of Green® Laundry Detergents due to a risk of bacterial infections that could be serious for people with underlying health problems.
Was My Laundry Detergent Recalled?
The recall involves 14,550 bottles of laundry detergent that were sold nationwide from April 2022 to October 2022, including the following products:
- Art of Green® Free and Clear Laundry Detergent (100-oz. Bottles)
- Zen Lavender Garden Laundry Detergent (100-oz. bottles and 33.8-oz. pouches)
Where Were They Sold?
These products were sold nationwide Save Mart, Lucky and Food Maxx regional stores, and online at Amazon.com for $6-$25.
What is the Problem?
No bacterial infections were reported in the recall, but the recalled Art of Green detergents may be contaminated with dangerous bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and possibly other types.
What is Pseudomonas?
Pseudomonas is a type of bacteria is found widely in soil and water. It can get into the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or broken skin. Infections can be highly antibiotic-resistant and hard to treat, according to the CDC.
Who Is At Risk?
People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected, but some people “face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment,” the recall warns.
High-risk people include those who use external medical devices, or have weakened immune systems due to underlying health problems.
Laundry Detergent Lawsuits
Lawsuits have already been filed against the manufacturer of another laundry detergent called The Laundress, which was also recalled due to a risk of bacterial infections with Pseudomonas and other dangerous microbes. This lawsuit cited multiple reports from people who developed skin rashes, septic shock, and other health problems after using contaminated detergent.
