Atripla Class Action Lawsuit

Atripla Class Action Lawsuit

Gilead Sciences makes Atripla®, an anti-HIV medication with an older formula of tenofovir (TDF) as the active ingredient. Unfortunately, it has been linked to an increased risk of kidney injury, tooth decay, bone thinning, osteoporosis, and other severe side effects.

What You Can Do & How We Can Help

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is currently accepting Atripla induced injury cases in all 50 states. If you or somebody you know has been diagnosed with a severe bone, dental, or kidney side effect, you should contact our lawyers immediately for a free case consultation. What is Atripla?

Atripla® is a single pill that contains a combination of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) with 2 other anti-HIV medications — efavirenz and emtricitabine. It is manufactured by Gilead Sciences.

Atripla Lawsuits

Gilead Sciences is facing lawsuits from people who took Atripla and other HIV medications that contain TDF. The problem with TDF is that it must be taken in high doses to be effective, which can cause severe side effects in the bones, teeth, and kidneys. Plaintiffs in these lawsuits accuse Gilead of delaying a safer version of TDF, called TAF (Tenofovir Alafenamide), to maximize profits on older drugs like Atripla.

Atripla Class Action Lawsuit Filed in California

In May 2018, a class action lawsuit was filed in California on behalf of everyone who took Atripla and Gilead’s other HIV drugs. Lawyers claim that Gilead knew as far back as 2001 that TDF was “…highly toxic in the doses prescribed and risked permanent and possibly fatal damage to the kidneys and bones.”

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not currently filing an Atripla class action lawsuit. Instead, we are filing individual personal injury lawsuits for people who took Atripla and developed severe bone loss, tooth decay, or kidney side effects.

About Class Actions

Class actions are rarely used when a lot of people have very serious injuries from a dangerous medication. The problem is that in a typical class action, everyone who joins the lawsuit must share the payout.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

There is no excuse for drug-makers who fail to warn about side effects of a medication. Our lawyers are focusing on helping individuals who were injured by Atripla seek justice and compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering, long-term injuries, lost income, and more.
