Target Baby Food Recalled for High Levels of Lead

In April 2025, baby food sold at Target stores nationwide was recalled due to high levels of lead contamination.

The recall involves about 25,600 packages of Target’s store-brand Good & Gather® Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale & Thyme Vegetable Puree.

What is the Problem?

No illnesses were reported, but the baby food may have elevated levels of lead. Lead is a naturally-occurring metal that is poisonous.

How To Identify Recalled Baby Food

Target customers can identify the recalled baby food with the following information:

  • Good & Gather Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale & Thyme Vegetable Puree
  • Net Wt 4 oz. (113g)
  • For children 6+ months old
  • UPC: 1 91907-99314 1
  • Lot Number 4169, Best-By Date: December 9, 2025
  • Lot Number 4167, Best-By Date: December 7, 2025

How Can Lead Get Into Baby Food?

Lead can get into our food supply through environmental contamination, where plants absorb lead from soil or water. Lead can also get into food through improper processing, or using lead-containing materials in food preparation or packaging.

What is Lead Poisoning?

There is no “safe” level of lead for anyone, but lead poisoning is more likely to cause health problems for children due to their smaller size and fast-growing bodies. Lead poisoning in children has been associated with developmental delays, learning disabilities, behavioral issues, and side effects in nearly every part of the body.

What is a Class II Recall?

The FDA classified this recall as a Class II recall, which means it “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
