September 17, 2025 — Baby food pouches that were sold at Walgreens have been recalled due to lead contamination.
The recall involves specific Sprout Organics® Sweet Potato, Apple & Spinach baby food pouches (3.5-oz. size). The pouches are marked on the back with Lot Code: 4212 and Expiration Date: 10/29/2025.
They were sold at Walgreens and some independent stores in the U.S. South region, primarily between September and December 2024.
No illnesses were reported as of September 2025, but Sprout Organics said that “routine testing” identified elevated levels of lead in the products that were recalled.
According to the FDA, lead is a toxic heavy metal that can cause serious side effects and developmental problems in young children.
No level of lead exposure is known to be safe, but symptoms are more likely for people who suffer from long-term exposure to lead, or short-term exposure to high levels of lead.
Children are most at risk from the long-term effects of lead poisoning, according to the FDA:
“If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time, this can affect learning and development or cause other long-term health problems.”
Sprout Organics is urging any customers who bought the baby food pouches affected by this recall to return it to the store for a full refund.
