CaTeam Recalls Baby Hammock Swings for Deadly Suffocation Risk
In July 2023, CaTeam recalled about 700 canvas baby hammock swings because they pose a risk of suffocation and death.
What is the Problem?
The recalled baby hammock swings are a type of inclined sleeper, which is banned under the Safe Sleep for Babies Act, because they were marketed for infant sleep and have an angle greater than 10º.
Were Any Injuries Reported?
No injuries or deaths were linked to the recalled CaTeam Baby Hammock Swings, but other inclined sleeping products for babies have been linked to more than 100 deaths due to suffocation, as well as thousands of serious injuries or near-death incidents.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):
“Infant fatalities have occurred in inclined sleepers after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances.”
Where Were They Sold?
CaTeam Canvas Baby Hammock Swings were sold online and at Amazon.com from November 2022 through January 2023 for between $70 and $100. The manufacturer, CaTeam of Oak Harbor, Washington, is urging consumers to immediately stop using the swings and contact the company to learn how to get a refund.
