7.5 Million Baby Shark Bath Toys Recalled for Severe Injury Risk

In June 2023, Zuru recalled around 7.5 million Baby Shark Bath Toys because children can suffer serious injuries if they accidentally fall or sit on top of the hard plastic top fin.

What is the Problem?

The recalled Baby Shark Bath Toys have a hard, sharp plastic top fin, and they are meant to be played with in the water, where children might accidentally slip and fall and land on top of the toy.

Children have been impaled or suffered puncture wounds, lacerations, facial and genital injuries, or needed stitches. Newer versions of these bath toys have a soft silicone top fin that is less likely to cause injuries.

How Many Children Were Injured?

There were 12 reports of incidents, including 9 children who needed stitches or emergency medical attention after falling or sitting on a full-size Baby Shark toy. No injuries were linked to Mini Baby Shark toys.

What is the Risk?

Baby Shark Bath Toys have been linked to severe injuries, according to Zuru, including “impalement injuries, lacerations and puncture wounds, including to children’s genital, anorectal and facial areas.”

Was My Child’s Baby Shark Toy Recalled?

The recall involves the following Baby Shark Bath Toys:

They were sold from May 2019 through March 2023 at Walmart, CVS, Dollar General, Family Dollar, HEB, Meijer, Target, TJ Maxx and other TJX Companies, Ross, Walgreens, Amazon.com, other stores nationwide and online.
  • Robo Alive Junior Mini Baby Shark Swimming Bath Toys (mini-size): The toys swim but do not sing when placed in water. They were sold from from July 2020 through June 2023 for between $6 and $20.
