3 Million BISSELL Steam Cleaners Recalled After 157 Burn Injuries Reported
In July 2024, BISSELL announced a Safety Recall for about 3.2 million BISSELL® Steam Shot™ Handheld Steam Cleaners due to a burn hazard.
What is the Problem?
BISSELL recalled millions of Steam Shot Steam Cleaners because they can expel hot water or steam onto users while heating or during use, which poses a burn hazard.
How Many People Were Burned?
BISSELL received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping from the recalled steam cleaners, including 157 reports of people who suffered minor burn injuries.
What is a Steam Scald?
A scald is a type of burn injury that is caused by hot water or steam that comes into contact with the skin.
How Severe Are Hot Water Burn Injuries and Scalds?
Scalds are usually minor 1st- or 2nd-degree burns that do not penetrate to the deeper layers of skin, but 3rd-degree burns can occur with prolonged contact, especially when extremely hot water soaks into clothing and sticks to the body. Scalds can also be 3rd-degree burns if large sections of skin are burned by a big clouds of steam.

Where Were They Sold?
This recalled BISSELL Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners were sold nationwide from August 2008 through May 2024 at Target, Walmart, other department and home goods stores, and online.
How To Identify Recalled Steam Cleaners
The name “STEAM SHOT” or “POWER STEAMER” is printed on the side of the product. Colors include green, pink, blue, orange, white, black, purple and red.
The recall involves steam cleaners in the model series 39N7 and 2994. The model numbers are printed on the product rating label on the bottom of the unit.
The recalled model numbers are: 39N7, 39N71, 39N72, 39N73, 39N75, 39N76, 39N77, 39N78, 39N79, 39N7A, 39N7C, 39N7B, 39N7D, 39N7E, 39N7F, 39N7H, 39N7J, 39N7M, 39N7N, 39N7P, 39N7Q, 39N7T, 39N7V, 39N7W, 39B7U, 39N7V, 39N7X, 29946, 29947, 29948, 29949, 2994B, 2994C, 2994D, and 2994W.
