July 25, 2024 — Stutz Packing Company has recalled 1-pound bags of shelled walnuts that may be contaminated with Listeria.
The walnuts were distributed to food bank warehouses in Texas and Arizona, where they may have been further distributed to consumers, smaller food banks, school lunch programs, shelters, or prisons.
The recall involves 1-pound bags of Shelled Walnuts with UPC Code 7 15001 00908 1, and Lot Code 241711 or 241721.
No illnesses were reported, but infections with Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning. The risk is highest for pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly adults, and people with vulnerable immune systems.
The recall was issued after a routine sample tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Stutz is investigating the problem and has ceased distribution and production of the product.
Anyone who bought the product should discard it or return it to the location where it was obtained.
