Harbor Freight Tools Recalls 53,000 Bauer Backpack Sprayers
In October 2024, Harbor Freight Tools recalled about 53,000 battery-powered backpack sprayers because they can leak chemicals, which can cause the battery to overheat or catch on fire.
The recall involves Bauer® 20V Battery-Powered 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayers. The product has a 20V rechargeable lithium-ion battery that powers a sprayer pump and a wand that continuously sprays liquids.
What is the Problem?
The problem is that the sprayer pump can leak liquid chemicals and cause the lithium-ion battery to overheat and catch on fire. No injuries were reported, but battery fires and explosions are very dangerous.
According to the recall, the “sprayer pump on the backpack can leak chemicals into the battery compartment and can cause the battery to overheat, posing a fire hazard.” There were 8 reports of the battery overheating, including reports of smoking, melting, and fire.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled backpack sprayers were sold at Harbor Freight Tools stores nationwide and online at www.harborfreight.com from March 2022 through September 2024 for between $80 and $120.
What Should I Do?
You can check if your backpack sprayer is being recalled by looking for the name “Bauer” printed on the back. The products can be identified by Item Number 58671 and UPC 193175443663, which are printed on a label inside the bottom of the battery compartment.
How Do I Get a Refund?
If your backpack sprayer is part of this safety recall, you should immediately stop using it and contact Harbor Freight Tools for instructions on how to return the sprayer hose and wand for a refund.
Harbor Freight Tools is offering a full refund in the form of a gift card.
To get a gift card, you can return the backpack sprayer to the store, or contact the company for a prepaid return shipping label. For more information, visit the recall website at http://www.harborfreight.com/recalls.
