What Happened With the Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter Recall?
In August 2026, Boticelli Foods has announced an urgent recall for a single lot of Bettergoods® Pistachio Nut Butter. No illnesses have been reported, but health officials in Florida discovered Salmonella in 3 jars of the product during routine test.
The product was manufactured in Italy by a company called Gustibus Alimentari Srl of Assoro, Italy, before it was imported into the U.S. by Boticelli and sold at Walmart stores.
How Was the Salmonella Contamination Discovered?
According to the recall, Walmart said it was notified that a sample of the product tested positive for Salmonella on July 17, 2026. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services tested 3 jars of the product that were collected from a Walmart retail store as part of a routine inspection. The testing identified the presence of Salmonella in the product.
Where Was Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter Sold?
The recalled product was distributed exclusively to Walmart retail stores in 19 states:
- Alabama
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Colorado
- Florida
- Georgia
- Idaho
- Kansas
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Montana
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- New Mexico
- Oregon
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Washington
- Wyoming
The recall only includes jars with Lot Code LB028ACP04 and an expiration date of January 28, 2027. No other lots of Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter products are being recalled at this time..
What Is the Risk of Salmonella Poisoning?
The FDA warns that Salmonella “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”
Healthy people who are infected with Salmonella may experience:
- Fever
- Diarrhea, which may be bloody
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
In rare cases, the organism can enter the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
