February 22, 2024 — Sensio has been sued by a man from California who was burned when he opened the lid on a defective Bella Pressure Cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by a man from Lake Elsinore, California, who accuses Sensio of selling a defective Bella 5-Qt. Pressure Cooker (Model Number JY-PC20US-11P).
In December 2023, he claims that he was severely burned when he was able to easily twist open the lid on his Bella Pressure Cooker when it was still pressurized. This resulted in hot food being ejected out of the pot and onto his body, resulting in painful burn injuries.
In his lawsuit, he blames the incident on the failure of the so-called “safety features,” which failed to keep him safe, or lock the lid until the pressure cooker was safe to open.
The incident involved a Bella Pressure Cooker that had been recalled four months earlier. In August 2023, Sensio recalled about 860,000 pressure cookers because the lid can unlock and be removed during use.
At least 61 people were burned, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Those injuries included 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns to the face, torso, arms, and hands.
His pressure cooker lawsuit was filed on February 16, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York — Case Number 1:24-cv-01191.
