Calphalon Knife Recall
On February 22, 2017, Calphalon Contemporary Cutlery recalled around 2 million knife sets and individual knives that were sold in the U.S., and around 7,000 knives sold in Canada.
Broken Knife Injury & Laceration Hazard
Calphalon received 3,150 reports of broken knives. There were 27 people who were injured by lacerations on their fingers or hands, including 4 people who needed stitches or medical attention to close the wounds. Theses severe injuries could cause permanent disability.
What Products Were Recalled?
Calphalon Contemporary Cutlery carving, chef, paring, santoku and utility knives sold between September 2008 and December 2016 at J.C. Penney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, other stores, and online at amazon.com. The individual knives cost about $25 and knife block sets cost $300.

The model numbers affected by this recall are 1808008, 1808009, 1821332, 1922890, 1922971, 1922976, 1932810, KNR0005C, KNR0007C, KNR10045C, KNR4008C, KNSR002C, and KNSR0102C.

In September 2015, over 330,000 Calphalon pizza cutting wheels were recalled because the handle could break off from the wheel. At least 11 people were injured or needed stitches.
