At least 39 people were infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli in 18 states, including 15 people who were hospitalized and 1 person who died, according to the CDC Outbreak Investigation on November 17, 2024.
The recall involves organic baby carrots and whole carrots that were sold under many popular brand-names, including:

These carrots are likely no longer in stores for sale, but they may still be in your home. The baby carrots have best-if-used by dates ranging from 9/11/2024 to 11/12/2024. The whole organic carrots were sold in stores from approximately 8/14/2024 to 10/23/2024.
Baby Carrots & Shredded Carrots Recalled for Salmonella Risk
In July 2021, Grimmway Farms recalled certain baby carrots and shredded carrots due to a risk of Salmonella.
No illnesses were reported. Grimmway Farms President and CEO Jeff Huckaby said: “The recall was initiated as a result of a routine, internal company test,” according to the recall notice on July 21.
Grimmway Farms issued a nationwide carrot recall for brands like Bunny Luv®, Cal-Organic®, Grimmway Farms®, and O Organics®.
The carrot packages are labeled with best-by dates in August 2021. The recall includes the following products:
- Bunny Luv® Organic Cut and Peeled Baby Carrots (1-lb bag)
- Bunny Luv® Organic Premium Petite Carrots (3-lb bag)
- Cal-Organic® Organic Petite Carrots (12-oz bag)
- Grimmway Farms® Shredded Carrots (10-oz bag)
- O Organics® Organic Peeled Baby-Cut Carrots (1-lb bag)
- O Organics® Organic Baby Rainbow Carrots (12-oz bag)
Grimmway Farms also distributed shredded carrots and chopped (chunk) carrots to food manufacturers and food service distributors, but most of it was removed before it was available to eat.
Health Risks of Salmonella
Healthy adults who are infected with Salmonella may experience food poisoning symptoms, such as a fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
In rare cases, infections with Salmonella can spread to the bloodstream, resulting in severe complications like arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, arthritis, or even death.
