Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker Lawsuit Filed in Florida

Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker Lawsuit Filed in Florida

August 11, 2022 — A woman who was burned by a recalled Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, Sunbeam Products.

The lawsuit was filed by Barri B., a woman from Connecticut who claims that the product was defective and unreasonably dangerous.

She claims that she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” in August 2019 when she opened the lid on her Sunbeam Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker (Model Number SCCPPC600-V1).

The exact same model of pressure cooker was recalled about 1 year after she was burned.

Approximately 900,000 Crock-Pot pressure cookers were recalled after “119 reports of lid detachment, resulting in 99 burn injuries ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns,” according to the recall notice.

Her lawsuit claims that the pressure cooker is defective because the lid is removable when there is still built-up pressure, heat and steam unside the unit.

“When the lid is removed under such circumstances, the pressure trapped within the unit causes the scalding hot contents to be projected from the unit and into the surrounding area, including onto the unsuspecting consumers, their families and other bystanders.”

The lawsuit also accuses Sunbeam Products of putting “profit ahead of safety by continuing to sell its Pressure Cookers to consumers, failing to warn said consumers of the serious risks posed by the defects, and failing to timely recall the dangerously defective Pressure Cookers despite the risk of significant injuries to Plaintiff and consumers like her.”

The Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on July 27, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida — Case Number 9:22-cv-81103.
