October 13, 2023 — A woman from Colorado who was burned by a recalled Sunbeam® Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker has filed a lawsuit.
The lawsuit blames the manufacturer, Sunbeam Products Inc., for selling a defective and unreasonably dangerous product.
The plaintiff, Salena R., is a woman who claims that she purchased the defective Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker from a Walmart store.
In November 2022, she was using it to cook food when it “malfunctioned, causing its scalding hot contents to erupt from the product.” The food landed on her body and caused “serious burn injuries,” according to the complaint.
Her injuries were caused by a Sunbeam® Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker (Model Number SCCPPC600-V).
This pressure cooker was recalled on November 24, 2020, after at least 99 people reported burn injuries when hot food or liquid was ejected out of the product.
The lawsuit blames Sunbeam Products for failing to warn consumers about the risk of burn injuries:
“The lid of the Pressure Cooker opening while the product is under pressure, with the contents heated in excess of 100°C [212°F], and steam inside the unit. When the lid opens or is removed under such circumstances, the pressure within the unit causes the scalding hot contents to erupt from the unit and into the surrounding area, including onto any persons nearby.”
Her pressure cooker lawsuit was filed on September 8, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado — Case No. 1:23-cv-02298-REB.
