June 12, 2025 — A woman who was burned by her Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands.
The lawsuit was filed by a woman from Minnesota who was burned in June 2021 while using a Crock-Pot Express Easy Release Pressure Cooker (specifically model number CPPCV60-SS).
Her lawsuit was filed against Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands, two companies who manufactured and sold the pressure cooker.
She claims that the companies sold a pressure cooker that was “dangerously defective,” and also failed to recall it “regardless of the risk of significant injuries to Plaintiff and consumers like her.”
According to her lawsuit, she was using the Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker on June 26, 2021, when she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries.” She blames her injuries on defective safety features.
She claims that she was able to open the lid with normal force when the Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker was still pressurized, which resulted in scalding-hot food being ejected out of the pot and onto her body.
Her lawsuit also quotes the User’s Manual, which includes statements about “safety sensors” in the lid. The manual claims that “pressure will not build if the Lid is not shut correctly and has not sealed.”
Her Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on May 15, 2025 against Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:25-cv-02119.
