January 24, 2025 — A lawsuit has been filed against Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands by a man from Montana who was burned by a Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker.
The plaintiff, Jason M., is a man who suffered burn injuries when he was hit by an explosion of scalding-hot liquid and steam as soon as he opened the lid on his Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker.
According to the lawsuit, he was severely burned on January 25, 2022, when he opened the lid on a Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker (Model Number CCPPC100-V1).
His lawsuit claims that the Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker is “dangerously defective” because the safety features do not actually lock the lid and prevent people from opening the unit while it is still under pressure.
The product that caused his injuries has not been recalled, but the design is similar to another Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker that was recalled.
In November 2020, Sunbeam Products recalled the Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker after 119 reports of lid detachment and 99 burn injuries.
His Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker Lawsuit was filed against Sunbeam Products and its parent company, Newell Brands, on January 13, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana — Case 1:25-cv-00009-TJC.
