December 4, 2025 — Abbott Diabetes Care is warning patients about incorrect readings from certain FreeStyle Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus glucose sensors.
The FDA published an Early Alert about the problem, urging patients to check if their sensors are affected, immediately stop using and dispose of the defective sensors.
Patients can determine if their sensor is affected by visiting https://www.freestylecheck.com/ and entering the serial number.
Incorrect low readings have been linked to 736 serious injuries and 7 deaths worldwide as of November 14, 2025, according to the FDA.
If an incorrect low glucose reading is undetected over a period of time, the patient may not realize they actually have high blood-sugar levels.
This may result in people with diabetes choosing the wrong treatment, like skipping or delaying insulin, or eating too many carbohydrates.
This is not the first time Abbott has announced a serious Class 1 Recall for the FreeStyle Libre 3. Last year, certain sensors were also recalled for incorrect high glucose readings. There were 2 reported injuries and no reports of death at the time.
