DigitDots Magnet Balls Recall
In March 2022, HD Premier Inc. recalled about 119,620 sets of DigitDots Magnetic Balls (3mm and 5mm) because they pose a risk of serious injury or death if swallowed.
The recalled DigitDots Magnet Balls were sold online at www.ilovedigitdots.com, www.amazon.com and other websites from March 2019 through January 2022 for between $20 and $30.
What is the Problem?
At least 4 children needed emergency surgery when they swallowed the recalled DigitDots magnet ball toys, according to the recall notice.
In addition, there are other reports of children and teenagers who swallowed other high-powered magnets and needed surgery, including 2 deaths, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
What is the Risk?
When two or more high-powered magnets are swallowed (either intentionally by children or accidentally by older children) the swallowed magnets can attract to each other, or to another metal object, and become lodged in the digestive system.
Deadly Hazards of Magnet Balls
The life-threatening health risks include:
- Intestinal perforations
- Twisting and/or blockage of the intestines
- Infection
- Blood poisoning
- Death
