February 8, 2019 — Fiat Chrysler has announced a recall for over 660,000 Ram pickup trucks worldwide because a loose nut can cause a loss of steering control. Another 222,000 Ram pickups were recalled for a brake pedal problem.
The first recall involves the 2013-2017 model-year Ram 3500 pickup trucks, as well as the 2014-2017 model-year Ram 2500 pickup trucks and 3500 chassis cabs.
Fiat Chrysler reported 8 crashes and 1 injury that could be linked to the steering problem.
Owners of the affected trucks can bring their vehicles into a dealer for a free inspection of the steering linkage nut. If it is tightened properly, it will be welded to a sleeve to keep it in place. If it is loose, the steering assembly will be replaced.
Fiat Chrysler conducted an investigation and determined that a bad configuration could prevent drivers from steering the vehicle.
Fiat Chrysler also announced a second recall involving approximately 222,000 model-year 2019 Ram 1500 pickups with adjustable pedals. The problem is that certain adjustments can cause the brake pedals to detach.
