What Happened With the Foaming Hand Soap Recall?
In June 2026, Intercon Chemical Co. and the FDA announced a Class II recall for 6 types of hand soap (including foaming and liquid hand soap) due to a risk of serious infections and bacterial contamination.
According to the FDA:
“Potential contamination with: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas monteilii, Serratia marcescens and Serratia nematodiphila.”
Did Anyone Get An Infection?
No infections were reported, but two products tested positive for bacteria, and other products were recalled due to a possible risk of contamination.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled hand soaps were shipped to distributors and retailers in 15 states, including: California, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
What Soaps May Be Contaminated?
Two of the 6 hand soaps tested positive for bacterial contamination:
- Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe
- Clearly Better by Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe.
The other 4 products, Summit 150 Foaming Hand Soap, Vestis Foaming Hand Soap, and two Laura Lynn-branded soaps, were also recalled due to “potential bacterial contamination.”
What Is the Risk?
The strains of bacteria found in these hand soaps are rarely a serious risk for healthy adults, which is why the FDA classified this as a Class II recall. However, certain people who are exposed to bacteria (especially if they have underlying illnesses or broken skin) can develop a more serious infection.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia marcescens are more likely to cause opportunistic infections in people with cuts, vulnerable immune systems, or certain pre-existing health issues that reduce their ability to fight off an infection.
No infections were reported in the recall, but the possible symptoms include:
- Skin redness and irritation
- Eye infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Respiratory infections
- Bloodstream infections in vulnerable individuals

Consumers should check the FDA recall notice to identify the model number, lot code, and Best-By date of recalled soaps.
