January 26, 2023 — Church Brothers and FreshPoint issued two recalls for parsley that tested positive for Salmonella contamination.
No illnesses were reported, but infections with Salmonella can take weeks to confirm by health officials. The recalled parsley is also past its shelf life, so it should no longer be in stores.
Church Brothers LLC, of Salinas, California, recalled parsley bunches in 30-count and 60-count boxes. The twist ties are marked with SKU 475987 and PLU 4899 and “Product of Mexico.” The parsley was distributed to Louisiana, Florida, and Michigan, according to the recall notice.
FreshPoint South Florida Inc., of Pompano Beach, Florida, also announced a recall for 1,269 cases of fresh parsley that was imported from Mexico and sold only in Florida.
FreshPoint sold two types of fresh parsley. One type was described as “FC Parsley Curly Chopped Fine” in 12-count boxes with UPC 10022363.
FreshPoint also recalled 6-count and 12-count boxes of fresh parsley. The boxes are marked with UPC 10022363, Parsley 12 CT or Parsley 6 CT, as well as “DIST BY FPSF, 22363 LOC 51.”
Infections with Salmonella commonly cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, chills, and vomiting. Healthy adults usually recover without needing medical treatment in about a week. In some cases, infections can become life-threatening, especially for young children, elderly adults, and people with certain underlying health issues.
