Frozen Avocado Chunks Recalled for Listeria Risk
June 2019 — Signature Select Avocado Chunks have been recalled after a bag tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes bacterial contamination, according to Nature’s Touch Frozen Foods (West) Inc. and the FDA. No illnesses have been reported.
Where Was it Sold?
The recalled avocado chunks were sold at the following stores:
- Albertsons
- Safeway
- Safeway Community Markets
- Carrs-Safeway
- Eagle
- Lucky
- Pak N Save
- Pavilions
- Vons
They were sold in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, Texas and Utah.
What Products Were Recalled?
The recall involves Signature Select® Avocado Chunks (Frozen) in 12-ounce bags with UPC 2113009412 and “Best Before OCT 11 20” printed on the back of the bag.
Listeria Food Poisoning Risks
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause a serious illness, and sometimes fatal infections or meningitis (brain inflammation). Symptoms often include a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women who are infected can suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection of the baby.
