GE Recalls 144,000 Gas & Electric Ranges for Tip-Over Hazard
In December 2021, GE Appliances recalled more than 144,000 gas and electric ranges because they can tip over, posing a serious burn hazard and a risk of injuries.
What is the Problem?
The recalled GE Free-Standing and Slide-In Electric and Gas Ranges are prone to tipping over when a heavy object is placed on an open oven door, if the anti-tip-over bracket is not installed properly, according to a recall notice posted on December 8 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
No injuries were reported, but an oven tip-over accident could cause severe burn injuries if pots or cookware on the stovetop falls and spills hot liquids or food.
What GE Ranges Were Recalled?
Some of the recalled ranges were sold under brands like Café, Conservator, Crosley, GE, Hotpoint, Haier, or Profile. For a full list of model and serial numbers, visit https://www.geappliances.com/ge/recall/.
Where Were They Sold?
They were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy and other home improvement and home appliance stores nationwide and online from May 2021 through July 2021 for between $580 and $4,600.
