Giantex Steam Saunas Recalled After 9 Burn Reports

In May 2026, Giantex Inc. recalled about 1,000 Giantex® and Costway® 2-liter and 3-liter portable steam saunas due to a risk of serious burn injuries.

The problem is that the steam sauna’s diffuser can be positioned too close to a consumer’s body. The steam diffuser is boiling-hot, and a user may suffer serious burn injuries if they come into contact with the diffuser when it is inside the enclosure.

What is the Safety Hazard?

On its website, Giantex warned that the steam diffuser has no fixed position in the enclosure, so users may not be able to see where it is and avoid touching it because their head is outside the enclosure.

The saunas were manufactured in China and distributed by Giantex Inc., of Ontario, California. They were sold online at Amazon and Walmart from January 2023 through December 2025 for between $68 and $100.

Why Are People Being Burned?

The steam diffuser in the enclosure may come into direct contact with the user’s body during use, which may result in burn injuries. The sauna is designed so the person sits in the sauna enclosure with their head sticking out through an opening at the top.

Giantex describes the defect on its own website:

“The Subject Steam Sauna Products may have a design defect that places the boiling hot steam diffuser close to the consumer’s extremities, posing a burn hazard to consumers. The steam diffuser has no fixed position inside the enclosure and can be placed close to user’s extremities. Users are also unable to visually locate and avoid contact with the steam diffuser because their head is outside the enclosure.”

How Many Burn Injuries Were Reported?

Giantex has received 9 reports of incidents involving the recalled saunas where consumers reported burns to their extremities, and 1 incident of a 2nd-degree burn. Reported injuries include:

  • Burns to the extremities (arms, legs, hands, and feet)
  • One reported second-degree burn

A 2nd-degree burn can be serious. According to Cleveland Clinic, it damages both the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and the second layer underneath (dermis), and often produces blisters, intense pain, and lasting skin discoloration.

Emergency medical attention may be necessary for 2nd-degree burns larger than 2 inches across the hands, face, feet, or major joints, according to the Mayo Clinic.
