What is the Problem?
According to the CPSC, the recalled heater’s fan blade can detach from the motor shaft, which can cause the fan to slow or stop. This may lead to overheating, melting, and fire.
Vornado describes the defect on its own recall page as follows:
“In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (‘CPSC’), Vornado is voluntarily recalling all units of the SRTH Small Room Tower Heater because the heater’s fan blade can detach from the motor shaft, which can cause a slow or stopped fan condition, leading to overheating and melting of the enclosure and internal parts. Melted internal parts can ignite and breach the enclosure if the thermal cut off or fuse does not timely activate, posing a fire hazard.”
Vornado has voluntarily recalled all units of the SRTH Small Room Tower Heater, meaning no production date, serial number range, or color is excluded.
How Many People Were Injured by Vornado SRTH Heaters?
Vornado has received 32 reports of overheating from fan blade displacement, including:
- 8 reports of fire
- 1 report of smoke inhalation
No deaths have been reported in connection with this recall. However, because the SRTH heater has been on the market since 2013, the actual number of fires, burn injuries, smoke inhalation incidents, and property damage events may increase.

What Should I Do?
The CPSC says consumers should stop using the recalled heaters immediately and contact Vornado for instructions on how to submit photos of the product and proof of destruction to receive a full refund.
Vornado is offering a $49.99 refund. The company specifically directs consumers not to return the product to the store where it was purchased. Refunds are only issued after online recall registration is validated.
