Wyze Solar Cam Pan Cameras Recalled After 6 Burn Injuries Reported

In June 2026, Wyze Labs voluntarily recalled approximately 321,360 Wyze Solar Cam Pan security cameras due to fire and burn hazards. The issue is linked to a simple mistake during installation, which may result in a screw puncturing the lithium-ion battery. This may cause the battery to explode, overheat, catch on fire, or burn people.

Another 2,560 cameras that were sold in Canada have also been recalled. The recall applies to cameras purchased on or before April 3, 2026.

What is the Problem?

According to the CPSC, the recalled cameras include two different types of screws for installation: short pan-head machine screws (intended to attach the solar panel to the top of the camera) and long flat-head wood screws (intended only for mounting the unit to a wall or other surface).

If consumers accidentally use the wrong screws to install the camera, the long screws can puncture the camera’s internal lithium-ion battery.

The CPSC describes the defect on its recall notice:

“The recalled Wyze Solar Cam Pan security cameras’ incorrect assembly instructions can lead consumers to accidentally puncture the lithium‑ion battery’s metal casing, causing the battery to rapidly overheat, posing a risk of serious injury or property damage from fire and burn hazards.”

On its own recall page, Wyze also acknowledges the same problem. The company explains that if the long flat-head wood screws are used to attach the solar panel bracket to the top of the camera, they may penetrate the closed-bottom brass inserts and puncture the internal lithium-ion battery’s metal casing.

How Many People Were Burned?

As of the June 2026 recall announcement, there were 13 reports of the security cameras overheating and 6 reports of cameras exploding and catching on fire. At least 6 consumers have reported suffering minor burn injuries.

The reported injuries and hazards in this recall include:

  • Minor burn injuries
  • Cameras catching fire or exploding
  • Lithium-ion battery overheating
  • Risk of property damage from fire

Lithium-ion battery fires can spread rapidly and reach high temperatures in seconds. When a battery is punctured, the resulting thermal runaway can ignite nearby materials and is difficult to extinguish with water.
