In January 2024, Daikin Comfort Technologies (formerly Goodman Manufatcuring) expanded a recall for evaporator coil drain pans that are linked to at least 31 fires.

The expanded recall involves about 3,600 additional drain pans, plus 298,300 evaporator coil drain pans, and 44,000 in Canada that were previously recalled in November 2021 and July 2022.

There were 31 reports of fires involving the drain pans, including 5 reports since the recall was originally announced in July 2022, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

There was 1 report of a person who suffered a smoke inhalation injury. There were also “several reports of significant fire and smoke damage to residences,” according to the recall.

Goodman Re-Announces Recall After More Fires Reported

Goodman Recalls Drain Pans for Gas Furnaces Due to Fire Hazard

On November 18, 2021, Goodman Manufacturing Company recalled approximately 298,300 drain pans for home furnaces after nearly two dozen fires were reported.

What is the problem?

At least 26 fires have been reported in the U.S. as of July 2022, according to Goodman. The problem is that the “drain pans assembled with certain evaporator coils may overheat, melt, and deform, posing a fire hazard.”

What Drain Pans Were Recalled?

Goodman recalled evaporator coil drain pans that were paired with residential condensing gas furnaces. The recall only applies to drain pans that were installed in a vertical, or “up-flow,” configuration.

They were sold between January 2019 and November 2021. The recall covers evaporator coils with serial numbers with prefixes ranging from 1901 through 2101.

What Should I Do?

Consumers should use the model verification tool at www.recallrtr.com/drainpan to see if their furnace system is being recalled. If so, consumers can contact Goodman for a free repair by a qualified technician.
