GoWise Pressure Cooker Lawsuit
In May 2024, a lawsuit was filed against GoWISE USA, LLC, by a woman who was burned by a pressure cooker. The plaintiff, Erika W., is a resident of Cleveland, Ohio, who allegedly suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” in July 2022.
What Happened?
In her lawsuit, the plaitiff claims that she was injured by a GoWise Electric Pressure Cooker (Model Number CYSB130-160B and Item No. GW22637).
These injuries occurred as a “direct and proximate result of the pressure cooker’s lid being able to be rotated and opened while the pressure cooker was still under pressure,” according to the lawsuit.
Lawsuit Claims Lid Opens When Pressure Cooker Is Pressurized
Opening the lid while the pressure cooker was still pressurized allowed “its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected” out of the pot and onto her body, resulting in burn injuries.
Her lawsuit blames her injuries on the failure of the pressure cooker’s “lock pin,” which is a safety feature that was advertised to keep consumers safe while using the pressure cooker.
What Does The Lawsuit Claim?
She claims that the pressure cooker is defective because “the lid of the pressure cooker is removable with built-up pressure, heat and steam still inside the unit.”
She is seeking compensatory damages for her significant and painful bodily injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished enjoyment of life.
The lawsuit was filed on May 20, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (Cleveland Division) — Case 1:24-cv-00892.
