April 25, 2025 — A pressure cooker lawsuit has been filed against Amazon on behalf of a 2-year-old child who was burned by an Instant Pot.
The lawsuit was filed against Amazon by the mother of the 2-year-old child, who was identified only as “V.P.” in the complaint.
According to the complaint, the girl was burned on May 5, 2023 when someone was able to twist open the lid on the Instant Pot while it was still pressurized.
The rapid release of pressure ejected the scalding-hot contents of the pressure cooker onto V.P., causing severe burns.
The lawsuit specifically involves an Instant Pot Smart-60 Programmable Multi-Cooker that the plaintiff purchased on Amazon.
She claims that Amazon failed to warn consumers about the safety risks of this product, despite a previous recall for about 1,000 Instant Pot Smart-60 Pressure Cookers after reports of electric shocks.
She claims that the pressure cooker is defective and “unreasonably dangerous for their intended use by consumers because the lid can be rotated and opened while the unit remains pressurized.”
Her Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on April 8, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida (Orlando Division) — Case Number 6:25-cv-00618.
