January 9, 2025 — A growing number of lawsuits have been filed by people who were burned by an Instant Pot Pressure Cooker that blew up when they opened the lid.
One of the most recent lawsuits also names Costco Wholesale Corporation, a major retailer, as well as the manufacturer of the Instant Pot, Midea America Corp.
The pressure cooker lawsuit was filed in the state of Washington by Gabriel Jusi, a man who claims that he was severely burned on December 22, 2022 while using his Instant Pot Duo Gourmet 60 Pressure Cooker.
The lawsuit blames Costco and Midea for manufacturing and marketing the Instant Pot as “safe,” despite reports of people who were seriously burned when they were able to open the lid.
According to his lawsuit, Jusi alleges that he was able to open the lid on the Instant Pot Duo Pressure Cooker when it was still pressurized. The rapid release of pressure also ejected scalding-hot food and liquid, causing him to suffer serious burn injuries.
His is seeking compensation for his burn injuries, medical expenses, pain and suffering, decreased quality of life, and more.
The Instant Pot Lawsuit was filed on December 16, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for Washington (Western District) — Case Number 2:24-cv-02067.
