October 8, 2015 — Dorel Juvenile has issued a recall for about 35,000 Safety 1st Décor Wood highchairs after receiving reports of children who took off the tray and fell out of the chair.
There have been 68 reports of children removing the tray and 11 reports of children who fell and were injured by lacerations, chipped teeth, and bruises, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recalled highchairs came in three models: HC144BZF (Casablanca), HC229CZF (Gentle Lace) and HC229CYG (Black Lace). They can be identified by the model number printed under the seat near the footrest.
In a statement, Dorel Juvenile warned:
“A child may be able to push the high chair’s tray off when it is not fully engaged. This presents a fall hazard if the child is not properly secured in the restraint straps. Consumers who own a recalled high chair should stop using it until the repair kit has been assembled to their product.”
The highchairs were sold from May 2013 through May 2015 for about $120 at many retailers, including Toys R Us, Babies R Us, www.Amazon.com, and other online retailers.
Dorel Juvenile asks parents to stop using the highchair until it can be repaired. Consumers can click on this link to order a free repair kit.
