Recalled Hot Tub Jets Can Suck in Hair and Drown People

In February 2026, Hot Spring Spas warned customers about a recall for about 32,900 Hydromassage® Rotary Jets (6 fin) that can entangle long hair and trap a person’s head underwater, posing a drowning hazard.

What is the Problem?

The recall was announced by the jet manufacturer, a company called Watkins Manufacturing. According to the recall:

“Watkins Wellness is conducting a voluntary product recall on the Hydromassage® Rotary Jet found in Hot Spring Highlife Collection spas because the jets can create a suction force that allows the user’s hair to be entangled in the jet, posing entanglement and drowning hazards to the user.”

Were Any Injuries Reported?

There was 1 report of a person whose hair was entangled in the jets, but no injuries or drownings were reported in the U.S. or Canada.

How To Identify Recalled Hot Tub Jets

Hot Spring Spas announced a recall for Hydromassage® Rotary Jets (6 fin) that have been manufactured since 2022. They were used in Highlife Collection spas and hot tubs from model-years 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The jets were included on 8 models of spas and hot tubs in the Highlife Collection, including:

  • Grandee
  • Envoy
  • Vanguard
  • Aria
  • Prodigy
  • Sovereign
  • Jetsetter
  • Jetsetter LX

Where Were They Sold?

The recall involves about 32,900 units that were sold from October 2022 through September 2025 in the U.S. at independent pool and spa dealers nationwide.

In addition, approximately 853 spas were recalled in Canada. There were no reports of any drowning incidents or injuries, according to Health Canada.

What Should I Do?

To help prevent hair entanglement or drowning, customers should immediately turn off the recalled Hydromassage® Rotary Jets by rotating them clockwise until it comes to a hard stop. The jets can be turned off when the spa is still filled with water and powered on.

How Do I Get a Replacement?

To verify that your hot tub or spa is affected by the recall, visit https://www.hotspring.com/recalls. You can register for free replacement jets, which will be sent in 1-2 weeks. You can install the jets without draining the water out of the hot tub.
