The recalled chairs were sold at Home Depot from January 2007 to February 2016.

Home Depot Recalls Chairs After 410 Reports of Breaking

In August 2016, Brown Jordan Services recalled about 265,000 Home Depot swivel chairs due to a fall hazard. The problem is that the base of the swivel chairs can break during normal use, posing a fall hazard. They were sold exclusively at Home Depot from October 2012 to January 2015.

Broken Chair Injury Lawsuits

Lawsuits may be filed by people who were injured in defective chairs, particularly chairs that have been recalled due to known safety hazards — but in many cases, recalls are not issued until a lot of people have been hurt. Manufacturers may also resist or delay recalls.

Why Should I File a Lawsuit for Chair Injuries?

If you decide to file a lawsuit for a chair injury, you may be eligible to seek financial compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost income, permanent injuries or disabilities, and more.

What is the Problem?

Every year, thousands of people are injured by poorly-designed furniture. Chairs are a common source of pain and suffering, particularly office chairs, bar stools, and other types of chairs.

What Causes Chair Injuries?

  • Chair was too weak to handle weight of a person
  • Chair seat detaches from the base
  • Chair back detaches from the seat
  • Broken legs on the chair
  • Broken swivel mechanisms
  • Chair tip-over accidents

Did The Manufacturer Cut Corners on Design, or Use Cheap Materials?

In some cases, chair injuries occur because the manufacturer failed to test the design before selling it to consumers, or they used poor-quality materials. Cheap manufacturing can lead to a weak piece of furniture that is unable to handle the weight of a person, breaks easily, wears out quickly, prone to tipping over, and generally dangerous.

Were The Assembly Instructions Hard to Understand?

The chair manufacturer may also be responsible for failing to provide consumers with proper instructions on how to assemble the chair and install the parts. When instructions are inaccurate or confusing, it can be impossible for a consumer to safely put together their chairs.

What is the Risk?

Falling out of a broken chair can cause serious injuries. Some of the most severe chair injuries include:

  • Broken bones
  • Sprained or fractured wrist, arm
  • Scrapes and lacerations
  • Scarring
  • Infections
  • Spinal & back injuries
  • Neck injuries
  • Finger injuries (amputations)
  • Whiplash
  • Head injuries (concussions, etc.)
  • Traumatic brain injuries
