April 9, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman from Georgia who was burned when she opened the lid on her Instant Pot DUO 60 Pressure Cooker.
The plaintiff, Courtney F., is a woman from Savannah, Georgia who claims that she suffered serious burn injuries while using an Instant Pot DUO (Model IP-DUO60 Plus) in August 2021.
According to the lawsuit, her burn injuries occurred when she was able to open the pressure cooker’s lid while it was still under pressure.
Opening the lid allowed its “scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker and onto Plaintiff,” the lawsuit states.
The incident occurred as a result of the failure of the pressure cooker’s so-called safety mechanisms, which failed to keep her safe, or prevent her from opening the lid until the pressure was released.
The defendants include Instant Brands LLC and Corelle Brands LLC.
The pressure cooker lawsuit was filed on March 26, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia (Savannah Division) — Case Number 4:24:cv-00055-TSF-CLR.
