March 1, 2023 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman from Alabama who claims that she was burned when her Instant Pot exploded.
The plaintiff, Angie E., is a woman from Demopolis, Alabama, who claims that she was seriously burned by a defective Instant Pot IP-LUX Electric Pressure Cooker (Model Number IP-LUX50 V3)
According to the lawsuit, on February 8, 2021, she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries as a direct and proximate result of the pressure cooker’s lid being able to be rotated and opened when the pressure cooker was still under pressure.”
Opening the lid when there was still pressure trapped within the unit caused “its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker,” the lawsuit states.
She blames her burn injuries on the failure of the pressure cooker’s supposed “safety mechanisms,” which failed to lock the lid until all of the pressure was released.
She accuses the manufacturer, Instant Brands Inc., of misleading consumers about the safety of the Instant Pot and failing to redesign the product or issue a recall.
Her lawsuit is seeking compensatory damages for her serious bodily injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and other damages.
The Instant Pot Lawsuit was filed against Instant Brands Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama (Selma Division) — Case Number 2:23-cv-00042.
