Jeep Recalls Grand Cherokee SRT & Trackhawk

November 18, 2018 — Chrysler Fiat Automotive (FCA) announced a recall for 4,822 of the 2018 model-year Jeep Grand Cherokee Street and Racing Technology (SRT) and Trackhawk vehicles because the gas pedal can get stuck on the driver floor mat.

Unintended Acceleration Hazard

There may not be enough clearance between the driver’s floor mat and the accelerator pedal, which could cause the accelerator pedal to get stuck when the driver removes pressure from the pedal. If the pedal cannot return to the idle position, it increases the risk of a crash.

What is the Problem?

If the accelerator pedal gets stuck on the floor mat, it will cause more engine power to be requested than intended — also known as unintended acceleration.

“Unintended engine power can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.”

Avoiding Unintended Acceleration in an Emergency

In an emergency, drivers can stop the vehicle with the brake-throttle override function. If the accelerator pedal is held in a fixed position for a certain amount of time, and then the brakes are applied, the engine will ignore the accelerator pedal and the engine will return to idle.

What is SRT?

FDA manufactures a special group of vehicles with Street Racing Technology (SRT). They are designed with a more powerful engine, upgraded performance parts, and luxury interiors.

What Should I Do?

Dealerships will inspect the driver’s floor mat part number and replace the mat if it is the defective part, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 18, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is UB3.
