Jool Nova Baby Swings Recalled for Suffocation Hazard
In March 2024, Jool Baby recalled about 63,100 Jool Nova Baby Swings because they have an inclined sleep surface, which poses a deadly suffocation hazard for babies.
What is the Problem?
Jool Baby advertised the Nova Baby Swings for sleep, failed to include mandatory warning labels against using the swings for sleep, and designed the swing with sleep-themed plush toys.
The swing poses a suffocation risk if babies fall asleep. The problem is that the swing has an incline angle greater than 10º, which is not allowed under the CPSC Infant Sleep Products Regulation and the Safe Sleep for Babies Act. Consumers should never use the recalled swings for sleep..
How To Identify Recalled Jool Nova Baby Swings
The voluntary recall involves Jool Nova Baby Swings with a manufacturing date between June 2022 and September 2023. This date can be found on the sewn-in warning label on the back of the swing seat.
What Should I Do?
Parents and caregivers should visit the recall website at https://joolbaby.com/pages/recall to register for a free repair kit.
Jool Baby says that parents and caregivers may continue to use the Nova Swing to help keep a baby entertained and engaged, but the product should not be used for sleep.
“However, if your baby falls asleep while in the swing, remove baby and place on a firm, flat surface such as a crib or bassinet. Using the Nova Swing or any product with an angle above 10 degrees is not safe for sleep.”
