Joy Furniture Recliners Recalled After 41 Overheating Reports and 2 Fires

In May 2026, Joy Furniture recalled about 10,400 Talan and Royce power reclining living room furniture sets due to a fire hazard. The problem is that the power switch on the sofa, loveseat, or recliner can malfunction and overheat, posing a risk of serious injury from a fire hazard. The recall was announced May 28, 2026.

What is the Problem?

The recall involves powered reclining furniture. These products have a power headrest and lumbar, pillowed arms, ultra-padded seating, and USB and wireless charging. The defect involves the power recliner switch, which has been linked to reports of overheating. The CPSC describes the hazard as follows:

“The power switch on the sofa, loveseat, or recliner can malfunction and overheat posing a risk of serious injury from a fire hazard.”

How Many People Were Injured?

Joy Furniture reported 41 incidents involving the power switch, including smoking, burning, and an electrical odor smell. Two of those incidents resulted in fire. No injuries have been reported to the CPSC.

An overheating power switch on upholstered furniture can present a serious risk, including:

  • Burn injuries
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Property damage from fire
  • House and apartment fires

How To Identify Recalled Joy Furniture Sets

The recall involves the following Talan and Royce powered furniture, which were sold in two colors. The Talan set comes in a medium-gray color and the Royce set comes in brown:

  • Talan Power Sofa — model JF1126-4PHL
  • Talan Power Loveseat — model JF1126-5PHL
  • Talan Power Recliner — model JF1126-9PHL
  • Royce Power Sofa — model JF1155-4PHL
  • Royce Power Loveseat — model JF1155-5PHL
  • Royce Power Recliner — model JF1155-9PHL

The furniture was sold at Raymour & Flanigan Furniture stores in Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. The Talan set sold from January 2024 through March 2026 for between $1,000 and $2,200. The Royce set sold from May 2025 until the middle of May 2026 for between $800 and $1,800.

Has This Happened With Other Recliners?

This is not the first power reclining furniture line linked to a fire hazard. In 2023, Ashley Furniture was hit with a lawsuit for fire damage that was linked to Party Time Furniture. Ashley Furniture recalled about 263,000 Party Time power loveseats, sofas, and recliners in 2023 because the cup-holders with LED lighting could overheat and catch on fire.

What Should I Do?

Consumers should stop using the power0recliner switch on their furniture set and unplug the power cord immediately, then participate in the recall.

Joy Furniture is offering all consumers to replace the defective power-recliner switch on the sofa, loveseat, and recliner with an upgraded switch, and will arrange for an authorized technician to replace the affected switches at the consumer’s residence.

Consumers can register for the repair at warrantyservice.com/JoyFurnitureRecall or by calling Joy Furniture at 888-297-7570. More information is available on the official CPSC recall notice.
