December 20, 2017 — Matrix Fireworks Inc. has issued a recall for the Jumbo Fireworks “Surprise Fountain” because it is overloaded with an illegal amount of pyrotechnics, posing a burn and explosion hazard.
The recall involves about 56,200 fireworks that were labeled as “fountains” but function more like an M-80 or another large firecracker, in violation of federal law. They contain an illegal amount of pyrotechnics that produce a loud noise. The recall notice warns:
“Overloaded fireworks can result in a greater than expected explosion, posing burn and explosion hazards to consumers. The product is labeled as a fountain but functions similar to an M-80 or other large firecracker, which are illegal.”
The fireworks have Product Code #JFG4279 on the front panel above the warning. They are a red cylinder (approximately 3″ tall x 1″ wide) with the words “Jumbo Fireworks,” “Surprise Fountain,” “Warning” and pictures of fountains and happy faces printed on the front label.
Consumers should return the fireworks to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. They were sold for $15 from May 2017 to August 2017 by Matrix Fireworks of Wahpeton, North Dakota.
Consumers with questions can call Matrix Fireworks at 701-642-2023 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or email the company at email@example.com.
