What is the Problem?

Hongkong Sun Rise Trading recalled over 256,000 Kobalt® chainsaws and pole saws that pose a “laceration hazard” because a user may not be able to turn them off.

Kobalt Chainsaw Recall

In September 2020, about 150,000 Kobalt® 40-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric Chainsaws were recalled because the switches can stay in the “on” position, which poses an injury hazard.

There were 48 reports of the recalled chainsaws staying “on” due to problems with the switches. No injuries were reported. They were sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores nationwide and online at Lowes.com from January 2014 through March 2020 for about $200.

Kobalt Pole Saw Recall

The pole saw recall involves about 106,400 Kobalt® 40-volt Lithium Ion 8-inch Cordless Electric Pole Saws with switches that can keep running after the trigger is released.

The problem is that the switch on the recalled pole saws can fail while under a heavy load, and cause it to keep running after a user releases the trigger. There were 65 reports of the pole saws staying on.

No injuries were reported, but the pole saws pose a serious risk of lacerations and injuries. They were sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores nationwide from March 2017 to October 2019 for about $180.

What Should I Do?

Consumers are being asked to stop using the recalled Kobalt chainsaws and pole saws, and contact the manufacturer for a free repair.
