March 27, 2020 — Mountain Rose Herbs, of Eugene, Oregon, has issued a voluntary recall for kudzu root supplements due to a risk of Salmonella contamination.
The recall involves Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement from Lot #24247-X and #24247. The product comes in a clear plastic or poly-woven bag, with weights ranging from 4 oz. to 50 lbs.
The recalled kudzu root supplement was distributed from June 17, 2019 to March 2, 2020.
It was sold in the Mountain Rose Herbs retail store in Oregon, on their website, through mail-orders, directly to customers in the U.S. and Canada, and possibly re-sold by customers to their own clientele.
No illnesses were reported as of the recall date on March 18, 2020. The recall was issued after testing by Mountain Rose Herbs revealed the presence of Salmonella in some ingredients in inventory.
Salmonella infections typically cause fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Most healthy adults recover from the illness within a week.
In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in bloodstream infections and more severe complications, such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
