June 6, 2023 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman who had to be hospitalized due to a severe infection after using EzriCare Eye Drops.
The plaintiff, Judith G., is a woman from Kentucky who developed serious eye pain, redness, and vision loss after using the eye drops.
In June 2022, she was diagnosed with “necrotizing scleritis,” which her doctor suspected was due to an infection.
She was quickly admitted to the medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on June 2, and remained hospitalized in the ICU until June 10, 2022.
Tests on her eye discharge showed that she was infected with multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Despite seeking outpatient treatment for her eye infection, her condition worsened. She ultimately required multiple surgical interventions, hospitalizations, weekly doctor’s visits, and antibiotics.
Her case was reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which later identified an outbreak of eye infections from EzriCare Eye Drops, with at least 81 case patients reported as of May 15, 2023.
Soon after the CDC warning, she filed a lawsuit against the manufacturers of EzriCare Eye Drops for selling a defective product.
Her lawsuit was filed against EzriCare LLC, EzriRX, Global Pharma Healthcare Private Ltd. and Aru Pharma.
The lawsuit was filed on May 20, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky (Covington) — Case Number 2:23-cv-00069-DLB-CJS.
