Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreaks

Legionnaires’ disease (also called legionellosis) is a severe lung infection (pneumonia) that is caused by breathing the bacteria Legionella in tiny droplets of water. Outbreaks are usually traced to buildings with complex water systems or cooling towers — especially hotels, hospitals, or apartment buildings — as well as hot tubs, pools, showers, or fountains.

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not filing a Legionnaires’ disease class action lawsuit. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who were infected with Legionella in outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease.

About Class Actions

Class actions are sometimes filed after outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease on behalf of everyone who was exposed. These lawsuits are designed to seek compensation for everyone who was exposed.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class actions are not designed to maximize compensation for individuals with severe injuries from Legionnaires’ disease. Instead, members of class actions must share the payout.

Instead of a class action, our lawyers are focusing on individual lawsuits for people who were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. We help victims seek compensation for their medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost income, disability, or wrongful death of a loved one.
