Lenox Teapot Recalled for Burn Injury Hazard

April 8, 2020 — A recall was issued for about 56,000 Lenox 2.5-quart tea kettles / teapots due to a burn hazard. There were 14 reports of tea kettles exploding hot water out of the top, including 4 reports of burn injuries. Some of the burns were severe.

What Tea Kettles Were Recalled?

This recall involves Lenox 2.5-Quart Whistling Stainless Steel Tea Kettle with a 3-layered bottom. The tea kettles were sold in a variety of colors, including blue, red, silver, and gold. The bottom measures 7″ in diameter. “Lenox” is written on the sides and the bottom of the kettle.

They were manufactured by Continuum Sales & Marketing Corp., of Port Washington, New York.

Where Were The Recalled Teapots Sold?

The recalled Lenox teapots were sold at Burlington, HomeGoods, Home Sense, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Tuesday Morning, and Winners stores nationwide from September 2013 through November 2017 for between $30 and $50.

What is the Risk?

Burn injuries are extremely painful and they may result in lifelong scarring. For more severe burns, treatment may involve hospitalization and excruciating skin graft surgery or debridement.

Multiple people, children, or even pets can be seriously injured when defective products explode boiling-hot liquid, especially products like teapots, kettles, coffee makers, or pressure cookers.
