What Is the Moringa Salmonella Outbreak?

In May 2026, the CDC reopened an investigation into a multistate Salmonella outbreak originally tied to moringa leaf powder dietary supplements. The agency confirmed 22 new infections in 4 newly affected states, along with 6 additional hospitalizations, bringing the total to 119 cases and 32 hospitalizations across 36 states. No deaths have been reported.

The outbreak involves two strains of Salmonella — Typhimurium and Newport. Illness-onset dates range from August 22, 2025 to April 26, 2026. Patients range in age from less than 1 year to 81 years old, with a median age of 45. Wisconsin has reported the most cases at 16, followed by Minnesota with 9.

The CDC has warned that the true number of sick people is likely much higher than the number reported. If you took a moringa capsule or super greens supplement in the last several months and developed severe stomach symptoms, your illness may be part of this outbreak even if it was never officially counted.

Which Moringa Products Have Been Recalled?

Federal health officials have now confirmed multiple recalls tied to the moringa outbreaks. Each recall is voluntary, and each product was sold nationwide:

Total Nutrition Recall

Total Nutrition, Inc. described the recalled products as packaged in white HDPE supplement bottles with smooth white caps and 120 clear capsules filled with green moringa powder. The recalled lots include TNVitamins lots:

  • TNVitamins, lots:
    • 2507199 (Exp. 09/2027)
    • 2512-304 (Exp. 02/2028)
    • 2793 (Exp. 02/2028)
  • Doctor’s Pride
    • lot 2507199 (Exp. 09/2027)

The products were distributed nationally through Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop, Target, and the company’s websites at tnvitamins.com and doctorspride.com.

The FDA describes the Total Nutrition recall as follows:

“Total Nutrition Inc. of Deer Park, NY is voluntarily recalling TNVitamins Ultra Potent Complete Green Superfood and Doctor’s Pride Complete Green Superfood Ultra Potent Moringa Capsules (120 count) because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

How Many People Have Gotten Sick?

The CDC has confirmed 119 cases of Salmonella infection across 36 states tied to the reopened moringa supplement outbreak, with 32 hospitalizations. A separate Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak linked to Mogo brand moringa capsules has been associated with 18 additional cases and 7 hospitalizations in 14 states.

Across both outbreaks, that is 137 confirmed infections and 39 hospitalizations tied to moringa leaf products in a single ongoing investigation — and the CDC has stated the true count is likely much higher because many people who recover at home are never tested. Reported patients range in age from less than 1 year to 81 years old.

What Are the Symptoms of Salmonella Poisoning?

According to the CDC, most people infected with Salmonella develop symptoms 6 hours to 6 days after exposure to the bacteria. Illness typically lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment. In some people, symptoms become severe enough to require hospitalization.

Common symptoms of Salmonella infection include:

  • Diarrhea (which may be bloody)
  • Fever
  • Stomach cramps and abdominal pain
  • Nausea and vomiting

According to the FDA, in rare cases Salmonella can enter the bloodstream and produce more severe complications, including arterial infections (infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis. If you took a recalled moringa product and developed bloody diarrhea, fever, or symptoms that required hospitalization, you may be part of this outbreak.

What Should I Do If I Have a Recalled Moringa Product?

The CDC and FDA are urging consumers to check their homes for any of the recalled moringa capsules or super greens powders listed above. The recalled products have long shelf lives, with expiration dates running into 2027 and 2028, so they may still be sitting in kitchens, gym bags, and supplement cabinets long after the recall announcement.

Total Nutrition, Inc. is asking customers to dispose of any affected products immediately and not to eat, sell, or serve them. Refunds may be requested by contacting TNVitamins at customerservice@tnvitamins.com with name, order number, and a photo of the product showing the lot codes in question. Customers who purchased Mogo Moringa Capsules can visit the company’s official recall page for guidance.

Can I File a Moringa Supplement Salmonella Lawsuit?

People who got sick with Salmonella after taking a recalled moringa capsule or super greens supplement may have legal options against the supplement maker, the distributor, or the retailer that sold the product.

You may be eligible to file a moringa Salmonella lawsuit if you took a recalled product and:

  • Were diagnosed with a Salmonella infection
  • Were hospitalized for severe diarrhea, dehydration, or related complications
  • Developed long-term complications such as reactive arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, or bloodstream infection
  • Lost time from work or incurred significant medical bills
  • Lost a loved one whose death has been linked to Salmonella infection

Time limits apply to food poisoning lawsuits, and the sooner you contact a lawyer, the easier it is to preserve evidence — including the supplement bottle, lot number, and medical records linking your illness to the recalled product.
